John, child poverty is a moral obscenity.
But last year Senate Republicans voted down a broadly supported measure that would have expanded the Child Tax Credit — a tax cut that goes directly into the pockets of working families.
I will not stand idly by while the moral obscenity of child poverty continues. And we know that expanding the Child Tax Credit is one of the most effective ways to lift kids out of poverty.
I’m fighting to expand the Child Tax Credit — and I want to see these “pro-family” Republicans join us in passing an expanded, restored Child Tax Credit right away. Add your name to put pressure on Senate Republicans to act quickly >>
John, the Child Tax Credit was a major lifeline for families when it was expanded in 2021.
It helped parents afford rent. Pay utilities. Buy food and diapers.
When families got automatic monthly payments from the government, we saw the rate of childhood poverty cut in half, reaching an all-time low.
It’s not every day that the positive effect of a policy is so immediately clear — but in the case of the Child Tax Credit, it is.
Babies need diapers. Growing children need bigger clothes. No child should go hungry. And a child should not be the most likely person in America to face eviction.
I’m fighting to restore the expanded Child Tax Credit. No child should fear losing their home, going cold, or going hungry. Add your name to my petition calling on the Senate to make this a top priority.
I will never stop working to bridge the divides that too often prevent legislation from being passed.
A just, loving country must ensure that every child is cared for. That’s what we’re fighting for.
With love and gratitude,
Cory
