As hundreds of thousands of Californians suffer from the devastating
wildfires raging in Los Angeles, Donald Trump is spreading lies and
falsely blaming California Democrats for the catastrophe.(1,2)

Trump’s rhetoric is hurtful, despicable, and outrageous. But we can’t
forget the lesson from Trump 1.0: Actions speak louder than words.

With MAGA-backed majorities in the House of Representatives and Senate,
Trump is poised to do serious damage to California via Congress --
including holding vital wildfire recovery funds for the state hostage
unless we roll back clean water protections.(3)

That’s why Courage California is building a Congressional Watch Hub for
journalists and grassroots advocates like you. While the media is
responding to Trump’s hateful lies, we’re staying laser-focused on all the
insidious policies he’s trying to move through with his MAGA cronies.

We know that Trump is small and petty enough to play politics with
disaster relief. Former White House staffers say he tried to withhold
wildfire recovery funds from California during his first term because the
state leans so Democratic.(4)

Now, the adults in the room who convinced Trump to do the right thing are
gone. That’s why we have to watch how Trump 2.0 responds to the L.A.
wildfires like hawks, demanding every penny there is to help our state
mend in the wake of this crisis.

But denying the state relief money isn’t the only cruelty Trump wants to
inflict on us. His Project 2025 and MAGA-faithful have plenty of other
plans, like:

* Fill our state with ICE agents to endanger our immigrant friends and
neighbors Undo protections for trans people and LGBTQ communities,
* Gut MediCal by withholding tens of millions of dollars in funds,
* Push a nationwide Voter ID requirement to overrule California’s voter
protections,
* Weaponize the Environmental Protection Agency to stop California’s
transition to all-electric vehicles, and
* Activate a 19th-century law to stop California from being an abortion
sanctuary for other states.

Plus, Trump and his allies in Congress will pass more tax cuts for the
rich, roll back laws meant to slow the climate crisis, and legalize his
attack on immigrants. And we know that it won’t just be Republicans who
fall in line with his immoral agenda.

Courage California works with dozens of organizations on the ground
fighting for us and our rights, and we will centralize the work with our
Congressional Watch Hub. You deserve to know what your elected
representative is doing about the MAGA agenda, and we’ll give you the
information and tools you need to take action to stop it.
