Hi John,
This Memorial Day looks different from previous years. The nation is battling a pandemic and states are working to slowly re-open, but the spirit of this day has not changed. We honor those who served in our military and made the ultimate sacrifice to secure our freedoms. Their commitment to protect and defend American democracy has left an indelible mark on our nation, and we are forever grateful for their patriotism and valor.
The stories of American military personnel are woven into the fabric of America, their sacrifice a bittersweet reminder of the preciousness of liberty. Men and women of diverse races, religions, creeds and political affiliations have fought and bled side by side, putting this nation and its promise of freedom above differences.
In these uncertain times, we should look to their example as inspiration in our own civic life. As always, America is strongest when we fight together to secure the nation and the ideals on which it was founded. The spirit of service and patriotism which drives the greatest military in the world should be an example to us all, especially in dark hours.
While this Memorial Day may feel different, there is no better time to remember and honor those who have laid down their lives to defend the freedoms of our great nation, and find strength in their example. We may not know them all, but we owe them all.
