Dear John
Happy new year! I truly hope you have had the opportunity to relax, recharge, and spend quality time with your family and friends over the Christmas break.
Over the break I spent time with my family and made the best of the ‘summer’ weather.
I want to acknowledge the tragic loss of one of our fine police officers on New’s Eve in Nelson our thoughts are with her family, friends and colleagues.
I also wish to acknowledge those recognised in the New Year’s Honours.
Our local recipients include Peter Skelton, Fendalton. Knight Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit recognised for services to environmental law and the earthquake recovery.
Gary Williams, Papanui. The King’s Service Order recognised for his work advocating for disabled victims of abuse in state care in particular.
As always, a new year brings challenges and opportunities for the government including employment, the global economy (Trade), interest rates and housing. 2025 will also see the reassessing of the Electorate boundaries responding to population changes.
On a wider city level, local infrastructure (basic services), progress of our city (stadium, Court Theatre etc), local business confidence and local body elections are major focuses.
On a local level in Ilam, I look forward to continuing weekly clinics in my office and attending local events meeting residents. If your organisation or business has a function, AGM or event coming up and would like your local MP as a speaker, please contact [

My team and I are looking forward to another year working in the Ilam electorate. There is much more to do and I am looking forward to the new year and new challenges!
Hamish
