John,

Today we pause to honor our fallen service members who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. Memorial Day is our opportunity to reflect on the contributions of our armed service members who never made it home from battle. We honor their service and their role in defending our country.

As we remember those who have gone before us, let us also recommit to supporting and uplifting the heroes that are still among us. We must continue to advocate for our nation's veterans, and demand they get the care and resources they deserve.

A fully-funded and fully-staffed VA is essential to millions of veterans nationwide. Our mission as activists and labor leaders, as Mother Jones said, is to mourn the dead and keep fighting for the living.

As we continue to navigate the challenges of the current public health crisis this Memorial Day, all of us at AFGE wish a safe and healthy holiday to you and your family.

In Solidarity,

Dr. Everett Kelley
AFGE National President
