Last week, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg finalized his MAGA makeover, overhauling Facebook’s content moderation rules in a blatant attempt to cozy up to Donald Trump and the far-right.
Meta’s new policies allow users to post content accusing LGBTQ people of “mental illness or abnormality” based solely on their gender or sexual orientation. And it doesn’t stop there. Content advocating for restrictions on LGBTQ people in professions like teaching, law enforcement, and the military is now fair game.
These changes are a stark reversal from Meta’s earlier commitments to combat hate speech.
But maybe we should have seen this coming all along. For years, Zuckerberg presented himself as a reluctant enforcer of content moderation, championing the idea of “free speech” while only selectively policing his platforms.
Now, with Trump poised to take office, Zuckerberg has abandoned any pretense of accountability. In doing so, he’s aligned himself with the likes of Elon Musk, championing ideas like “masculine energy” and railing against so-called “censorship”—a right-wing euphemism for the freedom to harass, bully, and attack individuals or groups they oppose.
John, COURIER was created for moments like this.
As platforms like Meta become cesspools for right-wing hatred, COURIER is here to fight back.
Our mission is clear: we deliver factual, fearless reporting directly to platforms like Facebook and Instagram—the very spaces where far-right hate speech is exploding. We expose lies, defend marginalized communities, and provide truth where it’s needed most.
But we can’t do it without your support.
In solidarity,
COURIER
