According to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection on Wednesday morning, the Palisades Fire was 19% contained and the Eaton Fire 45% contained, while a Red Flag Warning remained in effect into Thursday. Meanwhile, revelations of the incompetent decision-making that preceded the fires likewise continued unchecked. |

The U.S. Supreme Court is currently considering whether or not states can enact age verification laws to protect children from online pornography. The court heard oral arguments Wednesday regarding a case challenging age verification laws put in place by Texas. Since similar laws have been enacted by 16 other states, the justices' eventual decision will have nationwide implications. After two hours of oral arguments and questions, the court's more conservative majority signaled likely support for Texas's age verification law. |

U.S. Deficit Soars 39% in First Quarter |

The U.S. federal deficit rang in at $711 billion for the first quarter of Fiscal Year (FY) 2025, according to the monthly statement the U.S. Treasury Department released Tuesday. Such deficit spending, which surpassed 65% of federal receipts so far this year ($1.083 trillion), is totally unsustainable, but Congress has yet to figure out how to stop it. |

As Democratic President Joe Biden is just days away from departing the White House, a coalition of Catholic doctors is suing his administration over a federal rule that would force health care professionals to commit abortions. The Catholic Medical Association (CMA) and attorneys with Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) filed a lawsuit last week, challenging rule changes made by the Biden administration to the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA). |
