ABOUT THE EPISODE:

Happy new year, podcast listeners. And happy 1700th  birthday, Council of Nicaea!

How did this council come about? How has it been interpreted over the centuries? And how does this primary ecumenical meeting of Christians continue to teach us today?

At today’s kickoff birthday bash we welcome a renowned Nicaea expert, Prof. Lewis Ayers.

Lewis is McDonald Agape Distinguished Chair in Early Christian Theology at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome, also known as the Angelicum, and Professor of Catholic & Historical Theology at Durham University. His books include Nicaea and Its Legacy: An Approach to Fourth Century Theology and the Oxford Handbook of Catholic Theology (co-editor).

Co-hosting the episode is Executive Director and Publisher of The Living Church Foundation, the Rev. Matthew S.C. Olver, Ph.D.

We’re airing this episode in anticipation of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. We encourage you to participate.
