2024 Year in Review
After an historic year of growth and expansion in 2024, the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA) is beginning 2025 with a renewed commitment to ensure Minnesota Veterans and their families receive the services and support they have earned.
With a significant investment in new facilities the past few years, we will now focus on maintaining operations and programs.

Now entering its 12th year of supporting Resident events, recreational activities and other essential needs at Minnesota Veterans Homes - Fergus Falls, the Boots on the Ground organization recently presented the Home’s leadership team with a generous $30,000 check.
This donation will cover the cost of:
- Resident haircuts - $15,000
- Bingo sponsorships - $2,000
- A pool table for Veterans Village (a special care addition at the Home designed for Veterans with dementia) - $5,000
- Recreation Fund - $8,000

The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA) Fiscal Year 2024 Annual Report (July 1, 2023 - June 30, 2024) is now available on our website under the “About” section > Reports.
“Serving more Veterans across Minnesota” is the theme of this year’s Annual Report which highlights our priorities and accomplishments from the last year. MDVA experienced unprecedented growth in the last year with the opening of one new State Veterans Cemetery in Redwood Falls and three new State Veterans Homes in Bemidji, Montevideo and Preston. This expansion will allow the agency to serve hundreds more Veterans and their families in the coming years.

Video tours have been created for all eight of the Minnesota Veterans Homes and the Adult Day Center located on the campus of the Minneapolis Veterans Home.
The videos include both interior and exterior scenes to provide a complete tour of the Homes’ campuses, inside and out! The virtual video tours should be helpful to those unable to visit MDVA facilities in person, to get to know the buildings and grounds.

Have you made New Year’s resolutions? To continue its commitment to sustainable practices, the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA) sustainability team has made three resolutions for 2025, each representing an area where by investing today, the agency will be better prepared for tomorrow.
The MDVA sustainability team works to meet Executive Order-mandated sustainability goals in six focus areas: energy, water, greenhouse gas emissions, fleet, procurement and solid waste.
MDVA has dedicated sustainability efforts that run throughout the year – like switching to more efficient LED light bulbs to improve the quality of lighting and reduce energy use – supported by a strong internal culture of sustainability, where staff suggestions for bigger sustainability impact are always welcome.
