John,

In a cramped corner of America’s worst zoo, Billy the elephant paces in
circles, bobbing his head almost incessantly – a clear signal of the
trauma this gentle giant has endured for 35 years.

We can help set him free.

An amazing wildlife sanctuary in northern California is ready to take in
Billy and nurture him back to health. He’d have acres and acres of green
space to roam, shady oak trees, and shimmering lakes, plus a team of
carers and vets. They’re ready and waiting for Billy… all we need is LA
City Council to order the zoo to make the transfer!

If enough of us chip in a few dollars, we can massively ramp up pressure
on the council with winning tactics like targeting wavering members with a
flurry of ads, parking a billboard outside City Hall and running micro
polls to show the impact on their popularity of failing to act.

Every day Billy’s living conditions put him at greater risk – two other
elephants at the zoo recently died. Can you chip in to help free Billy and
supercharge powerful campaigns to defend all animals?

Ripped from his mother and herd at the age of 4, Billy has lived his life
in solitary confinement. Billy was born to roam the forests of Malaysia
with his troop. Left in the wild, he would have stayed with them for life,
thriving on the daily touch and affection that elephants, just like
humans, need.

Instead, he has spent decades in torturous confinement. He has been
chained up, beaten with a bull hook, and subjected to invasive sperm
retrieval procedures. Deprived of space to walk long distances, he suffers
from chronic joint and foot problems.

It’s not too late to give Billy a different kind of life – to let him roam
and forage and heal. But only if we act fast. The deaths of two other
elephants at LA Zoo, Jewel and Shaunzi, have pushed the council to order
an investigation. Now they must have a full hearing and vote on Billy’s
future.

A Council committee already backed the idea of relocating him to a
sanctuary once. We’ve got a great shot of getting this through! We just
need to show they’ve got more to lose from upsetting the public, than the
zoo’s bosses.

Can you help save Billy and supercharge powerful campaigns to defend all
living beings?
