Friend,
I began this new Congress in the spirit of bipartisanship and focused on delivering for our families. Just a week in, it is clear that not all my colleagues can say the same.
As deadly wildfires devastate the greater Los Angeles area, Speaker Johnson and House Republicans are trying to put conditions on desperately needed federal aid. They've even proposed attaching wildfire aid to a partisan federal debt limit bill.
Sign this petition and join me in telling Speaker Johnson that leveraging the pain and suffering of wildfire victims on totally unrelated issues is wrong! <[link removed]>
The families who have lost their homes and loved ones don't deserve this. The first responders putting their lives on the line to protect our communities don't deserve this.
Our job in Congress is to help victims of natural disasters, regardless of where they might live or who they voted for. And I take that responsibility seriously. You can read more about how my Democratic colleagues and I are fighting back in Politico here. <[link removed]>

I will continue closely monitoring the situation and will work to ensure that families get the support they need.
Best,
Ted
