Dear Neighbors,
In response to your emails both supportive and non supportive of denying quorum, I’d like to acknowledge that there is much misinformation circulating about what is actually happening at the Capitol in St. Paul.
It is most unfortunate that the GOP leadership set the stage for our hard, yet necessary, decision to deny quorum. The multiple threats by GOP leadership to declare vacant the seat of a duly elected member (and possibly more) to the House is a threat to every member regardless of party affiliation. Please keep in mind, the house seat belongs to the people, each representative is the voice of approximately 42,500 residents.
The intentional actions taken by the GOP were said to be wrong by the Secretary of State in his press statement on January 14, 2025. Further, the Secretary of State sent to both DFL and GOP leadership on January 10, 2025 a letter where he clarifies that a quorum requires 68 as set forth in our State Constitution and previously upheld in law. This matter has now been sent to the Supreme Court for adjudication. I am hopeful for a quick resolution.
It is both my duty and my responsibility to you and to every resident of this state to uphold the highest democratic principles and to honor the will of the voters. The voters sent a divided legislature and they expect us to co-govern.
At present, I’m working hard reviewing budget requests, drafting legislation, meeting with our neighbors, local business leaders and municipal leaders. As you may know, I work year round for our communities of Plymouth and Medicine Lake, not only during the legislative session.
Best,
Ginny Klevorn State Representative Plymouth & Medicine Lake 42B
