January – National Blood Donor Month

National Blood Donor Month is recognized each January to help raise awareness about how important it is to regularly donate blood and to celebrate the hard-working volunteers who help organize and assist in blood drives. Donating blood saves lives. According to the American Red Cross, someone in the U.S. needs blood every two seconds. If you can, stop by a local blood drive this month and donate.

If you’re looking for something local here in Montgomery County, Upper Providence Township Police, Fire, and Emergency Services are hosting a blood drive on Saturday, Jan. 28, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Upper Providence Township Building. Click here to book an appointment Schedule a Blood, Platelet or Plasma Donation | American Red Cross

January - Human Trafficking Awareness Month

January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month. Human trafficking is a massive illegal industry that violates and exploits children and adults throughout the world. This is, in fact, modern day slavery that’s happening under our noses, even here in Montgomery County and in the state of Pennsylvania.

Due to its location along the east coast, Pennsylvania is a likely place for human trafficking to occur. With the necessary tools and resources, we need to continue making our state a place where we take the time, initiative, and political will to limit this business, protect everyone we can, and ensure that people can live safely here.

There are numerous legislative efforts to address this in Pennsylvania. I have proposed legislation that would ensure massage businesses are licensed to establish more prevention methods, and I’m also backing state Rep. Regina Young’s bill which aims to train hotel workers to spot human trafficking.

How can you help? Contact your State Senator and encourage them to support these efforts to prevent human trafficking in Pennsylvania.

Please continue to stay safe, healthy and well-informed.

And, if you have questions about any state-related issue, please contact my office at 484-200-8263 or email [email protected]. If you wish to unsubscribe to this email, please scroll to the bottom where it says “Update Email Preferences".
