Musk is “gunning” for NPR and PBS, according to The New York Times. But to kill our public media, he’ll have to get Congress to slash millions in funding. And we are NOT going to let him get away with it.
Musk famously said “you are the media now” — signaling he thinks all the news we need is from his own Twitter “X” or Trump’s Truth Social. And with billionaire buddies like Jeff Bezos busy censoring cartoons as owner of The Washington Post and Mark Zuckerberg putting an end to fact-checking at Facebook, his plan is quickly falling into place.
It’s not hard to see why PBS and NPR are Musk and Trump’s next targets – they’re some of the few outlets they don't have control over. By gutting this public service, Trump and Musk and their oligarch friends will be free to take over even MORE of our media, lining their own pockets and making it even easier for them to spread their own propaganda.
The good news is we’ve stopped these threats before and we’re ready to do it again — but it’s going to take ALL of us to do it.
Free and independent media is more vital than ever, but for Trump and Musk, it’s one of the last remaining obstacles standing in the way of their totalitarian dreams. WIll you urgently send a message straight to Congress to save PBS and NPR?
Republicans have dreamed of gutting our free, fact-based independent public media for YEARS. But they’ve never been able to do it because it turns out, people on BOTH sides of the aisle (even in Congress!) believe in a public media that is required by law to be objective and free from corporate or political agendas.
When Trump tried to slash public media funding during his first term, millions mobilized to stop him. Trump lost that fight, but this time could be different as Republicans line up behind him and Musk pushes harder than ever for major cuts.
