Sunday, May 24, 2020 State Shouldn't Be Suing Our Small Businesses and Locking Our Church Doors Dear John, As we navigate a path out of this pandemic – some regions quicker than others – I continue to hear from small business owners, churches, medical professionals, health care workers, and others about how frustrated and concerned they are with the mixed signals and inconsistent decisions being made in St. Paul. These decisions are causing great damage to our economy. Attorney General Keith Ellison should not be suing our small businesses. He should, instead, be working with them to ensure they survive and keep our Main Streets strong. Our state’s top priority should not be to punish small businesses and keep our church doors closed.
Small businesses are the engine to our economy, and they will play a pivotal role in shaping America’s comeback. Let’s not forget that, before the coronavirus struck our country, our economy was moving at a historic pace and churning at levels we had not seen before. Unemployment was at a 50-year low, consumer confidence was skyrocketing, small businesses were hiring, wages were hitting all-time highs, and working families were prospering. We can get there again.
The good news is, Minnesotans in our part of the state will lead this economic comeback. We have the resources right here in the 8th District to begin to unleash our economic engine once again, get people back to work, and generate a blue-collar boom. We will come out of this, and when we do, we will be a stronger, more resilient, self-reliant country! New Power Play Podcast Highlighting Our Way of Life Since we last visited, I launched a video podcast highlighting Minnesotans and others who have great stories to share. You hear enough about politics these days. The goal of my podcast is to provide you with an opportunity to get to know our neighbors and highlight the fact that we have much more in common than we realize. A couple of weeks ago right before the walleye fishing opener, I visited with fishing legend Al Lindner in the Brainerd Lakes area. Al is a great friend, and he gave us tremendous insight on the fishing industry’s impact on Minnesota, his favorite fish to pursue, and helpful tips on how to make a great shore lunch! Check out Episode 1 on my website by clicking here, and look out for Episode 2 coming soon! Humbly Seeking Your Endorsement As a member of Congress, nothing means more to me than having the trust and confidence of the constituents I serve. Earlier this month, during a virtual tele-convention, I was honored and humbled to receive the unanimous endorsement of the 8th Congressional District Republicans. As I shared with them, I am optimistic about our future because of the Minnesotans I visit with every day, who cherish the freedoms and liberties that make our nation great. Memorial Day As a country, it is important on Memorial Day weekend for us to pause, honor, and reflect on those American heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of freedom. May God bless them and their families. We owe them a debt of gratitude. Have a great week!
Sincerely,
