John,
As Donald Trump prepares to start his second term, Big Tech is lining up to show their support.
News broke last week that Microsoft and Google will join OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Meta, Amazon, and Apple CEO Tim Cook in donating $1 million to Trump’s inauguration fund. Several industry leaders have visited Mar-a-Lago in the past few weeks to curry favor with Trump, each looking for ways to prevent or roll back regulations that hurt their bottom line.
Big Tech companies like Meta, OpenAI, Google, and Amazon have taken control of the internet, the dominant medium of all modern communication and commerce. They have gained unprecedented access to a wealth of user data and used it to create and sell databases of Americans’ personal information. These companies have also leveraged algorithms to promote and amplify dangerous disinformation and violence, as we saw during the January 6th insurrection. These practices have created a grave threat to our democracy and our people.
Tell Congress: Hold Big Tech accountable.
