John,
The Chinese government is considering the sale of TikTok to the world’s richest man, Elon Musk.
Under Musk’s ownership, Twitter/X turned into a hotbed of hate speech and disinformation, as he welcomed far-right extremists and conspiracy theorists on the platform. He also gutted Twitter’s trust and safety teams whose job it was to keep the platform free of hate speech.
If Musk gets his hands on TikTok, it’ll likely go the same way.
The world’s richest man can’t be allowed to own two of the most powerful social media platforms. But if there’s a massive public backlash, regulators will be forced to step in. Sign the petition and demand that US regulators stop this sale.

Insiders say Chinese officials met to discuss a possible deal with Musk. But allowing Musk to own the US version of TikTok will give this extraordinarily powerful billionaire even greater sway.
Musk already manipulates Twitter’s algorithm to boost his own posts, while suppressing those he doesn’t agree with. If Musk buys TikTok, he’ll turn this platform into his own personal soapbox too, and use it to try and influence elections like he has in Germany and the UK.
Musk might have the money but we have a movement of people who believe corporate billionaires must be held to account. We’ve pushed regulators to stand up to tech companies before -- from supporting FTC Chair Lina Khan to take on Big Tech, to helping to pass the Digital Services Act in the EU. Now we need to stop Musk from buying TikTok.
