** TODAY: Mass Call to Oppose Trump’s Nominees

We know not to expect any good nominees from Trump, but we should still talk about the horrible specifics of his current picks.
Trump has nominated several conspiracy theorists and otherwise odious people to positions in his administration: Kash Patel for the FBI, Pete Hegseth for Secretary of Defense, Tulsi Gabbard for Director of National Intelligence, RFK Jr for Director of HHS, and other dangerous, extreme, and unqualified individuals for no other reason than their willingness to cover for Trump, his billionaire friends, and their deep-pocketed interests while targeting Trump’s perceived enemies.
These nominations raise serious concerns about public safety, national security, and urgent challenges like the opioid crisis. It is vital that our Senators ensure a fair and transparent confirmation process.
Conducting this process openly and without undue political interference strengthens the credibility of our institutions and demonstrates a commitment to good governance. Our Senators’ responsibility is to reject these reckless nominations and oppose these blatant efforts by Trump to exploit the government for his benefit.

** The Laken Riley Act is a MAGA Republican anti-immigrant bill

MAGA Republicans have spent years sowing hatred and fear of undocumented immigrants. In recent years, one way they’ve done this is by invoking the name of Laken Riley, a woman murdered in Georgia by an undocumented immigrant.
The House passed the Laken Riley Act, H.R. 29 ([link removed]) , and the Senate agreed to take up its version, S. 5, ([link removed]) for a vote. Representatives Pelosi and Mullin both voted against it; our Senators did not vote on it.
From its very name, this bill is about portraying all immigrants as dangerous criminals. Even worse, the bill’s provisions are terrifying. It would certain noncitizens, including any undocumented person or DACA recipient, to get detained if they’re arrested for certain offenses, even if they are never even charged with a crime.
This is a gross overreach meant to sow terror among our immigrant neighbors.
Tell our Senators ([link removed]) to reject The Laken Riley Act and everything it stands for.

ADEM is upon us: Register to vote in it today
------------------------------------------------------------
Every two years, Democrats across California vote to elect the delegates who will represent them in the California Democratic Party. That time is upon us once again.
The process is called the Assembly Delegate Election Meeting ([link removed]) , or ADEM. We wrote in late 2020 about what the ADEM is for and how it helps build power ([link removed]) .
Each Assembly district will get to elect 14 delegates. As of today, you can now register to vote in the ADEM election ([link removed]) , either online or in-person. You have until noon on Friday, January 24 to register to vote online, or until 6 PM on Sunday, February 23 to register for in-person voting. In-person voting will happen Saturday and Sunday, February 22–23 at locations up and down the state ([link removed]) .

If you would like to join and do important work with us, we welcome you! Currently we are especially in need of volunteers to help with the following:
* Managing our social media and creating posts and graphics
* Making short-form videos to help educate people on our topics in an accessible way.
* Tracking state and local legislation and working with our state and local legislatures and Mayor-elect Lurie.
