John, we just released our 2025 Gun Law Rankings.
Each year, Everytown Research analyzes 50 gun safety policies across the country, ranking every state based on the strength of its gun laws.
Once again, a clear pattern emerged: States with strong gun laws see less gun violence. How strong are District of Columbia's gun laws? See where it stacks up on our Gun Law Rankings.
Meanwhile, states that lack basic gun safety laws—the "national failures"—have a rate of gun violence two and a half times higher than the states that are national gun safety leaders.
Our gun law rankings are a roadmap for lawmakers to keep their communities safe: if every state had the gun death rates of the nine states with the strongest gun safety laws, 299,000 lives could be saved in the next decade.
So in 2025, we're doubling down on our work to pass and defend gun safety laws in state legislatures across the country.
Check out our 2025 gun law rankings to learn more about the state of gun violence in District of Columbia.
