Dear John — it has been a tough week for Californians.

We commend the bravery and dedication of California’s firefighters and first responders who are working around the clock and risking their lives to get multiple wildfires under control. And they are making encouraging progress.

But the danger is not over.

We urge everyone in affected areas to heed evacuation orders and take every precaution to protect themselves and their loved ones. The safety of our communities is the top priority.

There has been so much loss in this climate disaster. Our hearts go out to all those affected by the devastating wildfires raging across our state.

We are grateful for the support of the Biden Administration in sparing no expense to contain these fires and protect our families. President Biden has announced that for the next six months, the federal government will cover 100% of the cost of measures to protect lives and property in Southern California.

Likewise, the California Democratic Party stands ready to support those affected and to continue advocating for the necessary climate action to mitigate the underlying cause of these escalating climate disasters.
