John – Members of our military and their families should be able to afford to live where they are stationed. But today, service members stationed at growing defense hubs like Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) here in Tacoma face an affordability crisis that is pricing them out of our community.
More than 70% of JBLM’s 40,000 active duty live off base. This is not just a housing issue; it’s a matter of readiness, stability, and honoring the commitments we’ve made to those who protect our freedoms.
To address this challenge, Congresswoman Strickland is working across the aisle on legislation that will expand affordable housing options for service members, empowering families and strengthening defense communities in high-cost areas.
This isn’t the first time Congress has tried to address housing affordability for our military families. It’s crucial that we hear from you on this issue.
