Hey Team –
We’re only two weeks into the new year and Meta is already making decisions that threaten the safety of its platforms. Here’s what they’ve done so far:
-
Blocked teens from searching for LGBTQ+ content for months [1]
-
Ended their third party fact-checking program, opening the door to unchecked disinformation [2]
-
Lifted their political content ban just as Trump begins his second term [3]
-
Updated policies to allow hate speech to be posted on their platforms [4]
-
Appointed pro-Trump Republicans to key leadership positions [5]
These changes make the company’s platforms exponentially more dangerous for us – removing protections against hate speech and misinformation while amplifying harmful, extremist voices.
But here’s the good news: we can fight back. It's time for Meta to pay attention to its users' safety, so we’re going after the one thing they care about most: their bottom line. And to broaden our impact, we need to make a splash. Donate now and help us show Big Tech monopolies like Meta that their money comes from their users’ attention, and we’re prepared to take action.
DONATE NOW
Meta’s actions risk turning the platform into an echo chamber for widespread misinformation and hate speech. As Big Tech panders to the incoming president, we’re facing the possibility of a Trump-controlled social media landscape where what he says goes. Social media should be a space where everyone can safely connect, learn, and build community – not a playground for authoritarianism and hate.
That’s why we’re taking a stand. Donate today to help us demand a safe online world for all, not just for Trump’s allies. Together, we can show Meta they can’t afford to ignore us or the safety of their users any longer.
In solidarity,
Nicole Gill
