I hope you are staying safe at this difficult time.

On Brexit, so far, so good with the Prime Minister’s EU negotiator, David Frost. Last week he published his clear but frank letter to Michel Barnier, setting out the UK position and calling attention to how the EU is being totally unreasonable in its demands.

I am always delighted to praise the Government when they are getting things right; on Brexit they are making all the right noises to date. However, history tells us that a last-minute climb down is far from impossible. It really is down to us to keep the pressure on, as we have so many times before.

There are other issues on which we have some real concerns, such as our relationship with China and Huawei, as well as illegal immigration via the English Channel. This is something I have been busy highlighting in recent weeks and is a growing problem that the media have, until now, refused to discuss.

Criminal gangs are sending more and more dinghies full of people over from France, in great peril. Last week I caught the French coastguard on film, escorting these boats to edge of British territorial waters, then handing them over to the UK Border Force to escort to Dover. We have sent tens of millions to the French Government to stop this, but the problem is getting worse, not better. It seems that they’re pocketing the cash but not doing the work!

We have to hold the Government to account on these important issues.
