John,
House Republicans just unveiled their vision for the country: $5 trillion in budget cuts that rip away critical services like Medicaid, education, and food assistance—all to pay for more tax breaks for the rich.[1]
If enacted, this budget would leave millions of Americans without access to healthcare, struggling to feed their families, and denied the basic resources they need to survive.
Medicaid alone faces $2.3 trillion in cuts under this plan. These cuts would force states to ration healthcare, leaving millions—including children and seniors—without coverage. Food assistance programs like SNAP would see reductions that would plunge millions into hunger, while schools across the nation would be gutted, depriving students of the tools they need to succeed.
But here’s the good news: With the GOP’s razor-thin majority in the House, we only need to peel off a few votes to stop this budget from taking effect.
Tell the House to reject these devastating cuts, which are meant to pay for tax cuts for the rich.
This cruel budget isn’t about “fiscal responsibility.” It’s about greed. House Budget Chair Jodey Arrington’s (R-TX) “Reverse the Curse” plan calls for as much as $16 trillion in cuts over the next decade, targeting not just Medicaid but Medicare and Social Security as well.[2]
These proposals prioritize billionaires’ bank accounts over the survival of working Americans. And now, a new report from the Biden administration shows that a full renewal of the expiring 2017 Trump-GOP tax scam would blow up the debt by $5.5 trillion.[3] Almost exactly the same amount that House Republicans want to cut. The connection is clear.
The Trump-GOP tax law enacted in his first administration slashed the corporate tax rate to 21% from 35%, allowing the wealthiest Americans to hoard more wealth. Now, Trump is doubling down even further to benefit billionaires who already pay lower effective tax rates than nurses and teachers.[4]
Every dollar cut from programs that support working people takes opportunity, dignity, and security away from people who need it most. House Republicans are betting that they can get away with this betrayal. Let’s prove them wrong.
Demand Congress reject this $5 trillion attack on working families and protect the services that millions of Americans rely on.
Thank you for standing with us in this critical fight.
