Fellow Kansan,

Thank you for subscribing to my newsletter! Last week, we kicked off the 119th Congress by certifying President Trump's historic win in the November election. We also passed the Laken Riley Act which requires Immigrations and Customs Enforcement to arrest illegal immigrants who commit crimes and mandate that they be detained until they are removed from the country.

This week, I am back in Washington, D.C. for a week of legislative and committee activity. For more information on what I'm working on this week, follow me on social media.

I do not serve in Congress to be a caretaker in the slow demise of America— I serve to fight and work to make it stronger. That’s what I am doing while believe in our brightest days are yet to come.

Yours in service,

The Week Ahead

This week, the U.S. House of Representatives will consider legislation to protect women all across the country. Tonight, the House will vote on H.R. 28, the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act. Women and men are biologically different. This bill will stop biological males from participating in women's sports, keep them out of women's lockers rooms, and protect an equal playing field for female athletes across the country.

We will also consider H.R. 30, the Preventing Violence Against Women by Illegal Aliens Act. It should not be controversial. If an illegal immigrant admits to or is convicted of committing a sexual offense or other related crime, they should immediately be deported from the United States. This bill also makes illegal immigrants with a criminal history of sex-related crimes inadmissible to the country. With more than 16 million illegal immigrants entering the country under President Biden's watch, we should do everything in our power to protect Americans from falling victim to bad intentioned actors.

On November 5, 2024, 77 million Americans gave Washington, D.C. an election day mandate to get our country back on track. I will proudly support these bills to keep innocent Americans from harms way.

Supporting the Laken Riley Act

Since day one, President Biden has refused to enforce the laws at our nation's borders. Under his failed leadership, every state has become a border state, and nearly 16 million illegal immigrants have entered the country without proper vetting or background checks. If President Biden simply chose to enforce the law, the senseless murder of Laken Riley could have been prevented. This nonsense is exactly what Americans rejected on Election Day.

We can and should make illegal immigration harder, not easier. I proudly voted for the Laken Riley Act to enforce the law and require Immigration and Customs Enforcement to arrest illegal immigrants who commit crimes and detain them until they are removed from the country. This is the right thing to do, and I look forward to working with the incoming Trump Administration to enforce our immigration laws.

Protecting the Second Amendment

At every turn, federal bureaucrats and Washington Democrats are relentlessly trying to undermine the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding Americans. Last week, I joined Representative Richard Hudson (NC-09) to introduce the Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act.

Our constitutional rights don’t magically go away when we travel across state lines, no matter how badly states like New York and California wish they would. Our bill defends the Second Amendment Rights of law-abiding citizens and ensures that legal gun owners can defend themselves regardless of their geographical location.

Standing for Life

Every life, born or unborn, has value and is worthy of protection. Sadly, not everyone in country abides by that truth. I cosponsored H.R. 21, the Born Alive Survivors Protection Act. H.R. 21 requires health care practitioners to exercise the same degree of care to preserve the life and health of child if a child is born alive after surviving an abortion. It also requires the survivor to be immediately transported to a hospital and requires criminal penalties for killing or denying care for abortion survivors.

I will always defend the right to life.

Getting Our Fiscal House In Order

Last year, our national debt climbed past $36 trillion. If everyone pitched in to tackle our debt, every American household would need to contribute almost $273,000 to bring our balance to zero. Compare that price tag to the average mortgage in the United States which is about $245,000. This nonsense must stop.

That's why I cosponsored legislation to propose a balanced budget amendment to the U.S. Constitution. This amendment would require that the President submit a balanced budget to Congress annually and requires a three-fifths vote on any federal spending beyond debt repayment. We can't continue our current rate of spending. It's time to get our fiscal house back in order.

Celebrating National Religious Freedom Day

As Americans, we have the right to live our faith, change our faith, or have no faith without interference from the government. This Thursday, the country will celebrate National Religious Freedom Day in honor of the 238th anniversary of the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom. The statute served as a foundation for the First Amendment of the Constitution's Free Exercise Clause.

On Religious Freedom Day, I will introduce the FAITH in Small Business Act which protects the First Amendment rights of small businesses. Faith-based small businesses deserve the same access to business loans and programs offered by the U.S. Small Business Administration as every other American business regardless of religion status. I am proud to increase protections for our nation's faith-based small businesses.

2025 Inauguration Ceremonies

Next week, I will join millions of Americans in the nation's capital for President Trump's inauguration ceremony as the 47th President of the United States. I'm excited to welcome hundreds of Kansans from the Big First to the nation's capital in honor of this special event. The day cannot come soon enough.

Nearly 77 million Americans supported President Trump in his historical electoral victory, including more than 740,000 Kansans. If you aren't making the trip to D.C. for inauguration, you can to watch the ceremonies on your preferred news outlet of choice, or at the link below.
