As we reflect on our journey since 2018, it’s clear that Contest Every Race has made significant strides in reshaping the Democratic landscape.
Where We Are:
In 2024, we achieved our best year yet:
- We recruited 2,907 Democrats across 17 states, achieving a 48% win rate with 1,408 elected candidates.
- We awarded over $1 million to under-resourced county parties, resulting in over 1.4 million doors knocked and 1.3 million phone calls made.
- Preliminary analysis from a randomized control trial indicates that these programs netted an estimated 11,000 votes for Democrats.
Looking Ahead:
The stakes remain high, and county parties are essential to rebuilding Democratic strength. Of the 520,000 elected offices in the U.S., 96% are local. These races are critical yet often overlooked by media and political strategists.
For 40 years, Democrats have withdrawn support from rural and "red" states, weakening local parties and allowing right-wing media to dominate the narrative. Without consistent local organizing and candidate development, Democrats will struggle to rebuild a strong, competitive bench.
