Dear John,
We did it—thanks to you!
Save the Redwoods League is thrilled to announce that we met our $9 million fundraising goal and successfully purchased Sonoma Coast Redwoods [[link removed]] . This means lasting protection for a one-of-a-kind property that combines a healthy redwood forest, biodiverse coastal prairie, and jaw-dropping ocean views.
This acquisition was truly a collective effort, with people around the world showing their love for this remarkable redwood ecosystem. Donations poured in from every U.S. state and several countries, including Ecuador, Canada, Denmark, Switzerland, UK, Germany, Italy, Turkey, the Netherlands, New Zealand, and Japan. Thank you for hearing our call to save this vital landscape from private development and answering with such enthusiasm and generosity.
Along with more than 5,000 donations, two generous matching gifts—$1M from the Schuman Family Foundation and $200K from the Troper Wojcicki Foundation—made this important acquisition possible.
Donations will also support stewardship of the redwood forest until we transfer Sonoma Coast Redwoods to a long-term steward for permanent protection and public access, including a potential extension of the California Coastal Trail.

Sonoma Coast Redwoods is located just south of Fort Ross State Historic Park, in the traditional lands of the Kashia Band of Pomo Indians. More than half of the 1,624-acre property is covered by lush redwood forest, including mature second-growth trees that are packing away planet-warming carbon. This redwood forest, rolling grasslands, and perennial streams provide essential habitat for fascinating plants and animals. [link removed]
Thanks to your support, this habitat is now connected and protected, along with the property’s cultural resources and recreational opportunities for all.
Thank you for everything you do to protect our beautiful redwood forests like Sonoma Coast Redwoods. We’re thrilled to do this work alongside you.
