Malliotakis meets with Trump; president-elect makes ‘clear’ he wants to stop congestion pricing

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-Staten Island/South Brooklyn) said she had a “productive” meeting with incoming President Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago this weekend.



The congresswoman said she, along with a contingent of other Republican House members, discussed a variety of topics with Trump, including state and local tax (SALT) deductions, congestion pricing, the World Trade Center Health Program, and more, ahead of “the upcoming reconciliation package.”

Malliotakis: Trump backs efforts to raise SALT cap, end congestion pricing

Rep. Nicole Malliotakis said Monday that President-elect Donald Trump supports efforts to raise the state and local tax deduction cap and oppose New York’s congestion pricing plan.

Malliotakis, who attended a weekend meeting at Mar-a-Lago in Florida with Republican members of the New York delegation, said Trump’s stance on the SALT cap—created during his administration in 2017—has shifted because of rising taxes in New York.

“In 2017, the focus was on doubling the standard deduction. It was on doubling the child tax credit. It was an across the board decrease in the federal income tax rate,” she said during an interview on “Mornings On 1” Monday.

Rep. Nicole Malliotakis challenged Democrats to help House Republicans increase the state and local tax deduction as she blamed them for overtaxing New York residents in the first place.

Malliotakis (R-NY), a member of the tax-writing House Committee on Ways and Means, was among the Republicans who huddled with President-elect Donald Trump Saturday in Mar-a-Lago to strategize on SALT and other issues.

“If Democrats care about middle-class families, then they should support it,” Malliotakis told The Post after that meeting. “The reason we need SALT relief is because our mayor and governor keep taxing New Yorkers to death.”
