Trump’s threats and intimidation tactics are working. We have to fight back.

As Donald Trump prepares to return to the White House, the media is running scared.

According to a recent New York Times report, media outlets are bracing for an unprecedented legal and political onslaught from Trump’s administration. From encrypting communications to increasing libel insurance to guard against Trump’s lawsuits, journalists and media outlets are scrambling to protect their work, their sources, and the bottom line.

Yet instead of doubling down and holding Trump accountable for attacking the free press, many are in retreat, changing their coverage and sacrificing truth to protect profits.

We can’t afford to let the free press crumble under authoritarian pressure. If you believe in fearless, independent journalism that stands up to Trump’s intimidation tactics, chip in $25 or more to support COURIER today.

The New York Times report reveals the chilling steps corporate media is taking to brace for Trump’s return.

Journalists are being told to avoid storing sensitive documents in the cloud, fearing subpoenas from a politicized Department of Justice. Newsrooms are switching to encrypted messaging apps to shield sources. Smaller outlets are even resorting to disposable SIM cards to protect against retaliation.

The sad irony is that at a time when Trump’s authoritarianism threatens our basic freedoms, media corporations have an opportunity to remind the American people of journalism’s essential pro-democracy mission.

But, instead of adhering to editorial standards, the Washington Post pulls its endorsement of Kamala Harris and kills a cartoon critical of Jeff Bezos’s efforts to appease Trump. ABC News settles a $15 million defamation suit rather than fighting. Morning Joe makes a pilgrimage to Mar-a-Lago, signaling their willingness to placate Trump.

Meanwhile, platforms like Meta and X (formerly Twitter) amplify Trump’s propaganda, prioritizing politics over accountability.

The corporate media is folding, but COURIER refuses to retreat. We’re building a progressive media network that delivers fearless, fact-based reporting to the places where right-wing propaganda spreads. We don’t answer to billionaires or cave to political pressure. We fight disinformation and hold power accountable, no matter what.

If you believe in protecting democracy and supporting journalism that stands firm against intimidation, chip in any amount today to support COURIER’s mission.
