We know there will be some ugly confirmation fights in the weeks ahead, but No Labels is focused on staying patient, looking at the big picture, and building a coalition to enact real change in Washington.

John,

Today marks the beginning of Senate confirmation hearings for President Trump’s cabinet appointees. Nominees to lead Veterans Affairs and Defense are making their way to Capitol Hill this morning, followed in the days ahead by those who hope to helm the Departments of Homeland Security, Justice, State, and many others.

The two months since the election have been relatively quiet by Washington standards. But these confirmation hearings are likely to bring back the partisan posturing and pressures that too often divide Congress. We will hear calls for senators to take an all-or-nothing stance on nominees—or face criticism from their party or the public.

No Labels will not follow this unproductive path.

Not every day needs to be about outrage, and every vote cannot be treated as a litmus test. As Senator John Fetterman recently said, “You really have to chill out … and be more discerning or discriminating on what’s going to freak you out.”

No Labels is committed to supporting House and Senate Democrats and Republicans who are ready to collaborate and build long-term solutions.

We do not expect them to think or vote the same way on every issue.

We do expect them to continue meeting to find areas of agreement.

We do expect them to step forward when bipartisan solutions are needed, as happened with the 2021 bipartisan infrastructure bill.

We, like the vast majority of the American people, do not want to see Democrats align with extreme resistance or Republicans rubber-stamp every policy.

We do expect our leaders to deliver meaningful results wherever possible.

We hope the No Labels community across the country will support this patient, deliberate approach to building a lasting, bipartisan coalition.

In the months ahead, America will need leaders from both parties and both chambers who have invested in relationships and trust across the aisle.

No Labels will continue to ensure a strong, nationwide community is ready to stand behind them.

Liz Morrison
