Today, Pete Hegseth will appear in front of my colleagues and I on the Senate Armed Services Committee for his confirmation hearing. From what I know about this man, he is inordinately unqualified to serve as our nation’s Secretary of Defense.

If you agree that Pete Hegseth is unfit to serve as Secretary of Defense, will you add your name to my petition today to reject his confirmation?

Pete Hegseth just doesn’t have the real experience needed to be Secretary of Defense. He never commanded a military company—let alone battalions, brigades or whole armies. How can we trust him to run a Department that includes 3 million servicemembers and civilians along with a budget of over $900 billion?

Besides not being qualified for the role, this is a man who has credible allegations of sexual assault against him. We’ve made a lot of progress in the past decade to fix sexual misconduct issues in the military, and Hegseth’s confirmation as Secretary of Defense would undermine this progress.

As a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, I will do my due diligence in asking Hegseth the questions that the American people deserve answers to.
