January 14, 2025: Weekly Newsletter | Exciting News for the Coastal Bend! This past October, I introduced a bill to name the US post office in downtown Corpus Christi as the “Captain Robert ‘Bob’ Batterson post office,” and on Sunday, President Biden signed this bill into law cementing Captain Batterson’s legacy. Captain Batterson was the embodiment of an American hero who dedicated 35 years to serving our nation in the U.S. Navy when he enlisted in 1939, not knowing that in the next 2 years he would be stationed at Pearl Harbor during one of the most pivotal moments in American history. After surviving the events of December 7th, 1941, he went on to the Naval Air Station Corpus Christi to earn his wings and serve as a Navy Aviator during World War II, piloting F6F Hellcats in defense of our nation. After the war, he transitioned to the Navy’s Supply Corps, continuing his service until retiring in 1974. In retirement, he spent 26 years as a volunteer at the U.S.S Lexington Museum in Corpus Christi. This rare selflessness has inspired visitors from near and far, especially at the Pearl Harbor exhibit, where he preserved the memory of those who served and sacrificed for our freedoms. Captain Batterson’s life exemplified service, sacrifice, and a love for his country and community. | Detain and Deport: Passing the Laken Riley Act | This week, the House voted on the Laken Riley Act—one of the first votes of the 119th Congress after the Senate, under Democrat rule, stalled this bill last session. This legislation is essential to closing the loopholes exploited by the Biden Administration to keep criminal illegal aliens in the United States. I voted YES on this important legislation because securing our borders is priority number 1 for this Congress and the incoming Trump Administration. It's time to finally fight for the safety and sovereignty of our nation. This vote was an important measure of who is serious about securing our borders and protecting American families. | Serving Texas 27 in the 118th Congress | One of the highlights of being your Congressman is being able to help residents of Texas-27 get around the red tape and bloated bureaucracy that make things more challenging. Through the hard work and dedication of my team in DC and Texas, millions of dollars have been recovered from federal agencies, like the IRS, and returned back to you, hundreds of residents have received assistance, and thousands more have had their comments, concerns, and questions responded to. | I joined Fox Business Network to discuss the Speaker vote, tax cuts, and how Congress can support Trump’s agenda. I also joined The Bob Jones Show to discuss getting the Captain Robert ‘Bob’ Batterson Post Office bill onto the President’s desk before the end of the 118th Congress and the impact Captain Batterson had on the Corpus Christi community. | Rep.
