Mayor Karen Bass Broke Promise to Not Travel Internationally While in Office
New York Times: After the first rally in her campaign for mayor of Los Angeles in 2021, Karen Bass spoke candidly about what she saw as a potential drawback to the job — a lack of world travel and involvement in global affairs. Ms. Bass was accustomed to circling the globe as a Democratic member of Congress and of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and had spent decades working on U.S.-Africa relations. It was one of the most absorbing parts of her political career, she told The New York Times in an interview on Oct. 17, 2021… She ultimately decided that she did, telling The Times that if she was elected mayor, “not only would I of course live here, but I also would not travel internationally — the only places I would go would be D.C., Sacramento, San Francisco and New York, in relation to LA” (New York Times). Ryan Saavedra: She broke her pledge when she was in Africa last week as fires erupted in LA despite warnings that the city was on high alert for fires (X). Byron York: As a candidate for LA mayor, Karen Bass said she would not travel internationally. Not only was she in Ghana when the wildfires began, in the last year she has also been to France three times and Mexico once (X).

Montana Asks Supreme Court to Listen to Arguments on Law Requiring Parental Consent for Minors to Get Abortions
After the state supreme court invalidated it. Fox News: Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen is asking the U.S. Supreme Court to hear his appeal of a ruling handed down by his state’s highest court invalidating a 2013 law that requires minors seeking an abortion to obtain notarized written consent from a parent or guardian. The law also includes a judicial bypass provision, allowing minors to seek court approval for an abortion without parental consent. The Montana Supreme Court struck down the Parental Consent for Abortion Act in 2024, ruling it violates a minor’s fundamental right to privacy under the state constitution by conditioning access to abortion on parental consent. The court acknowledged parents have a right to direct the care and custody of their children but determined those rights don’t override the “fundamental” right of a minor child to seek an abortion (Fox News). Wahington Times: The law, though, was challenged by Planned Parenthood of Montana after it originally passed in 2013 (Washington Times).

Fani Willis Asks Court to Be Reinstated on Trump Case
Townhall: Fulton County DA Fani Willis has asked Georgia’s highest court to place her back in charge of prosecuting President-elect Donald Trump and his allies after she was officially kicked off the 2020 election interference case. Willis asserts that failure to reinstate her would “infect” the state’s case law for years to come (Townhall). Reporter Phil Holloway: Fulton DA FaniWillis asks the Georgia Supreme Court to put her back on her RICO case against Donald Trump and the other defendants (X).
