Hey there!

It’s been a whirlwind ten days since I stood with my colleagues in the
Senate chamber and swore an oath to faithfully serve the good people of
Maryland and defend the Constitution of the United States. 

It was a truly surreal moment, and I cannot tell you how grateful I am
that you helped me get here. Thank you. 

My first days in the Senate have been hectic in the best way. But when I
get a rare quiet moment, I catch myself thinking back on the people and
experiences that sent me down the path of public service nearly 30 years
ago.

I learned from my great-grandmother that if you see something wrong, you
go farther and you do better.

When I wanted to improve my high school, I ran for office and dove into my
roles as Treasurer and Student Body President. 

When I wanted to create a safer neighborhood for my daughter, I ran for
State’s Attorney and helped drive down violent crime by 50%.

When I wanted to tackle complex issues in my community, I ran for County
Executive and created a record number of jobs in our community.

And when I wanted to deliver progress and prosperity for all Marylanders,
I ran for the U.S. Senate. And with your support, we won!

That brings me to January 3rd, 2025 – the day I took the oath of office to
represent Maryland in the United States Senate.

The Senate is a long way from student government. But my outlook on public
service hasn’t changed since I was elected class treasurer all those
decades ago. 

When something breaks, leaders don’t point fingers or wait around for
someone else to fix it — they grab a toolbox and get to work. 

Serving in the Senate is an enormous responsibility and an incredible
privilege, and I’ll work every day to make this team proud. But public
service is a team effort, and I’ll need your support to navigate new and
complex challenges on Capitol Hill.
