Last month, I was so proud to lead the House’s approval of the Beagle Brigade Act, which has since been signed into law by President Biden.
This bill will create the National Detector Dog Training Center in Newnan, Georgia. These dogs are essential to ensuring that prohibited agricultural items that could bring plants, animal pests, or diseases are found. Our agriculture sector is a $1 trillion industry that is constantly under the threat of foreign pests and diseases. Some of these pests or diseases could cost us tens of billions of dollars to contain and eradicate if they are found to be in the country.
The Beagle Brigade — agriculture detector dogs — are a critical tool in preventing these threats and eradicating them if they do overcome our safeguards.
As a member of Congress, I will continue to fight to safeguard and support our agricultural industry.
