Hey John,
It’s Arisha, President of Color Of Change PAC. My thoughts are with you and your loved ones as we live through this very difficult time.
I’m going to be transparent here: the coronavirus pandemic has made it far more difficult to mobilize Black folks to vote in crucial elections this year. Dozens of our on-the-ground voter engagement events have been completely canceled to keep our field organizers and members safe. We no longer can knock on our neighbors’ doors, host block parties, host Black joy brunches, and keep our local offices open.
On top of all of this, Black folks are experiencing the brunt of coronavirus. We are dying at disproportionate rates in this country. Tens of millions of us are now unemployed and at risk of not being able to pay for basic necessities. We are experiencing harassment for wearing face masks in public. And we are being disproportionately arrested for violating police-enforced social distancing orders. I am tired of elected officials across the country continuing to fail Black folks without accountability. Enough is enough.
It’s time we take our power back and elect officials who are committed to protecting Black people during this pandemic. Since we cannot mobilize for Black political power outside, we are now ramping up our efforts online. Doing so takes a lot of time, effort, and most importantly -- money. We are going to be hiring staff to work from home, hosting fun virtual events with Black folks across the country, and educating them about what is at stake.
It is very difficult for us to ask you for money right now, John. We at Color Of Change PAC know that many people need to prioritize feeding and housing not only themselves but their families.
Thank you for reading this email, John. We appreciate your membership and commitment to making this country a better place for Black people. Choose which donation amount feels right for you:
