As the Commonwealth Fund moves into 2025 — and its 107th year — it will turn to strong evidence, to proven models, and to health care system leaders, providers, and patients to help change course and find solutions, Commonwealth Fund President Joseph R. Betancourt, M.D., says in his new video and post for To the Point.
In a year marked by big changes, the Commonwealth Fund remained committed to bringing about an equitable health system that works for everyone. In his message, Betancourt discusses three themes that rose to the surface in 2024:
- frustration, and sometimes outrage, at business practices in our health system that prioritize profits over patient care
- the prohibitive cost of health care, even for people with insurance
- wide disparities in health outcomes, access to care, quality, and equity, despite the U.S. spending far more on health care than other countries.
“Bolstered by our history, our values, our board, and our incredible team,” Betancourt says, “we are ready to meet this moment, with bold investments, evidence, hard work, heart, and courage.”
