As a supporter and one of the reasons I was elected to the United States Senate, I wanted to give you an update about the committees I've been assigned to in the next Congress.

Here they are in alphabetical order:

1. Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry
2. Armed Services
3. Homeland Security
4. Veterans' Affairs

Service on these committees is an opportunity to do good things for the people of Michigan and enable me to fulfill the ironclad commitments I made to voters during the campaign.

For Agriculture, I am happy to continue representing Michigan’s diverse agriculture interests as Sen. Debbie Stabenow has done so ably on the Agriculture Committee.

As a former CIA officer and someone who served alongside the military for my entire career, I'm eager to continue to use legislative opportunities like the annual Defense Authorization Act to strengthen Michigan’s contributions to national security.

I served on the House Homeland Security Committee during my first two terms there, and am excited about the chance to serve under ranking member Sen. Gary Peters’ in the Senate.

And there is no more important responsibility than caring for our veterans and their families, work that is very near and dear to my heart while I'll serve on Veterans' Affairs.

So thank you again. Those of you who know me know that I don't want to use this email list to send an endless stream of fundraising requests. I want to use it to keep you updated about the important issues of the day and what I am doing about them in the Senate.
