Dear John,
At Piragis Northwoods Company, we’ve always believed some places are too special to sacrifice. That’s why we joined forces with Save the Boundary Waters, fellow businesses, and conservation groups to defend America’s most visited Wilderness from the threat of sulfide-ore copper mining.

Twin Metals, backed by a Chilean mining giant, is suing to force the renewal of leases, regain rejected applications, and revive a mining plan that threatens the fragile Boundary Waters ecosystem. But we fought back, moving to dismiss their lawsuit as an intervenor.
Now, as the case unfolds in Washington, D.C., we’re standing strong to protect the Boundary Waters for future generations.
This pristine Wilderness is not only a natural treasure—it supports businesses, outdoor enthusiasts, and families who depend on its beauty and vitality. Losing it to toxic mining is unthinkable.
As a longtime advocate and business owner in Ely, I know some places are too important.
This Wilderness has meant everything to my family and me. When my wife Nancy and I moved here in 1979, we founded Piragis Northwoods Co. and became part of this community. We’ve witnessed the impact this Wilderness has had on all of us—business owners, outdoor enthusiasts, and families alike. [link removed] [[link removed]]
