The Trump administration refuses to adopt the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), despite overwhelming support. Virginia made history in January when our General Assembly made us the 38th state to ratify the ERA and advance the fight to ensure that everyone has equal rights in the eyes of the law, regardless of their sex. Americans have spent decades fighting for this Constitutional Amendment, and now the Trump administration wants to throw it out on a technicality.

The administration says the deadline for the ERA’s ratification has passed. But the fact is, the House of Representatives already voted to eliminate that deadline. Mark Warner and a bi-partisan group of colleagues followed suit in November, introducing a Senate resolution to do the same. If both chambers vote to eliminate the deadline, the administration won’t be able to point to their flimsy excuse for refusing to adopt the ERA. But Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has refused to let the Senate vote on the resolution to eliminate the ERA deadline.

Friends, it’s clear that this administration will continue to fight progress at every turn. They will continue to resist every effort to provide equal protection for everyone in this country. Our leaders in Washington, including Mark Warner, will continue to fight for equal rights for all, but they need your help.
