Welcome to the 119th Congress
On Tuesday, January 3, 2025, I returned to Washington for the opening session of the 119th Congress. Serving the Fifth Congressional District in the House of Representatives remains the honor of a lifetime. I embark on this historic fourth term with the same determination, focus, and sense of responsibility and purpose that has always guided my work as your voice in Washington.
In case you missed it, our D.C. office has moved. We are now located at 2049 Rayburn House Office Building. Fifth District residents planning a trip to Washington can learn more about tours here.
Certifying the 2024 Presidential Election
On Monday, January 6, 2025, Congress carried out its constitutional duty to certify the results of the 2024 presidential election. This certification is vital and ensures the peaceful transition of power on January 20, 2025.
As we enter this next chapter, I will continue working on your behalf and seek bipartisan solutions wherever possible.
Remembering President Jimmy Carter
Former President Jimmy Carter was an extraordinary public servant who embodied the values of service, faith, and love of country.
During his tenure as the 39th President of the United States, President Carter established national energy policy, bolstered the Social Security system, worked to establish the Department of Education, and created nearly eight million jobs. In the four decades after his presidency, President Carter worked to improve public health, further global peace and democracy, and defend human rights. His work with Habitat for Humanity inspired me to introduce my students to service and has helped to build strength, stability, and self-reliance for many through shelter.
Last week, I joined Vice President Harris, Members of the Supreme Court, U.S. Congress, the Capitol community and our nation to honor his memory and express thanks for a life dedicated to service.
My thoughts, prayers, and unwavering gratitude are with the Carter family during this time.
Thank you for taking the time to read this update. As always, please continue to share your thoughts and priorities with me.
And that’s a wrap.
