Dear John,

Use your voice for communities today. As the very real impacts of climate change ravage Southern California, the government is willing to jeopardize at least $50 million dollars of resources for communities like these on the frontlines of climate change.

FACT: Climate Justice Alliance was selected as a national grantmaker with the environmental justice expertise to create a principled program that actually gets the resources to the frontlines.

FACT: We’ve hit every milestone the EPA has asked of us.

FACT: They’ve missed every deadline to disburse the funding meant to serve our environmental justice communities.

If we don’t get these resources before inauguration, they're gone.

[Send a one-click email]([link removed]) to Jane Nishida, Acting Administrator of the EPA, to demand release of environmental justice funds now.

Thank you for taking action.

KD ChavezExecutive Director

What it means if we don't receive these funds by inauguration

- RURAL & URBAN COMMUNITIES ACROSS 14 states, 300 Native Tribes, and American Samoa, Guam, and Northern Mariana Islands, WILL NOT EVEN HAVE THE CHANCE TO APPLY FOR FUNDING TOTALING $50+ MILLION TO ADDRESS THE CLIMATE CRISIS. That means climate projects for economic empowerment, affordable and democratic access to energy, healthy and sustainable local food supply chains, clean transportation, public health, and more will lose necessary resources.

- ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE LEADERSHIP IS DISENFRANCHISED & THE GOVERNMENT WASTED OUR TIME, ENERGY, AND WORK. Our entire grantmaking program meant to deliver $50+ million to communities on the frontlines of the climate crisis in an equitable, justice-informed and principled process will be scrapped. We’ve spent $1.6 million from our own operational budget to set up a grantmaking program that will not be delivered. We’ve been providing leadership and best practices in how to create an environmental justice-informed process that serves as a model for other grantmakers. We were also asked by EPA to provide services to regional grantmakers to make sure they are set up for success in the areas of outreach to underfunded communities, language
justice, technical assistance, and capacity building. We’ve done everything the EPA has asked of us.

- OUR FIRST AMENDMENT RIGHTS AND DEMOCRACY CAN BE SACRIFICED We have not been told why we haven’t received the funds yet, but the year has been filled with attacks from politicians on our anti-war stance. This is a censorship of climate justice principles and an encroachment on our First Amendment rights.

If the EPA does not disburse these resources, investments to deliver on the promise of undoing a legacy of disproportionate environmental burden and creating tangible changes on the ground will not be realized.
