Trump already backpedaling on key campaign promise
Well, well, well. What do we have here? Lt. Gen. Keith Kellogg, who Trump tapped to serve as special envoy to Ukraine and Russia, admitted it would, in fact, take longer than ONE DAY ― a ridiculous promise Trump repeatedly made on the campaign trail — to magically bring an end to the brutal war between the two nations that began when Vladimir Putin's forces unilaterally invaded Ukraine in February 2022. The Pentagon last year estimated that more than 600,000 Russian soldiers had been killed or wounded in the conflict, while Ukraine said last month 43,000 of its soldiers were killed, with another 370,000 wounded. Kellogg now thinks the incoming Trump administration will somehow find a way to end the war and rein in Putin's imperialistic campaign within 100 days. Time will surely tell.

VIDEO OF THE DAY: Trump & Republicans exploit California wildfires with firehose of disinformation
The MAGA cult leader and his Republican allies have used the unfathomable catastrophe unfolding in Southern California to spread wild and downright evil lies, forcing city and state officials to spend precious, finite time combatting the deluge of right-wing misinformation when their attention clearly should be focused on other, more pressing issues — like, ya know, helping Americans overcome and survive the historic natural disaster ripping through the second-largest city in the country.

Michael J. Fox leads the charge against Parkinson's disease
Michael J. Fox Foundation: With nearly 90,000 new diagnoses in the United States each year, Parkinson’s disease is the fastest growing and second-most-common neurodegenerative disease in America. Tackling this silent menace is going to require a united effort from the public and from our representatives in Congress, so Michael J. Fox is mobilizing a national movement to help policymakers understand what matters to people with Parkinson’s and share our stories to expand our understanding of this vicious disease. Will you add your name to stand with Michael J. Fox and the one million Americans living with Parkinson’s disease and be ready when it’s time to reach out to your elected officials?
Marjorie Taylor Greene launches unhinged call for officials to manipulate the weather to stop LA wildfires
Displaying all the mastery of a baby who just discovered its toes, the QAnon court jester of Georgia laughably demanded that government officials "geoengineer" rain to miraculously douse the wildfires ravaging Los Angeles. It's so simple! And, hey, while they're at it, how about finally taking out those damn space lasers that clearly started these fires in the first place!

GOP senator promises "shock and awe" from Trump executive orders
Republican Sen. John Barrasso of Wyoming invoked the antagonistic military-strategy phrase "shock and awe" — popularized during George W. Bush's disastrous military forays in the Middle East — while describing a preview of January 20, when the MAGA cult leader is sworn in. Barrasso vowed that a "blizzard of executive orders on the economy as well as on the border" were on the horizon, as it has become clear that Trump intends to overwhelm the public and government with drastic — and likely disastrous — changes.

Senate braces for "train wreck" as hearings kick off for Trump Cabinet picks
Republican Sen. John Cornyn of Texas predicted "a little bit of a train wreck" in the coming weeks as the upper chamber begins confirmation hearings for Donald Trump's various Cabinet nominees. The MAGA cult leader's picks are a veritable cornucopia of uniquely unqualified and deeply problematic individuals who should be nowhere near the levers of power in Washington, and it speaks volumes that, even with a 53-47 GOP majority in the Senate, Republicans are bracing for fireworks and chaos of one kind or another. May whatever guardrails are left in the Capitol hold in some ramshackle fashion...

Capitol rioter says she would refuse pardon from Trump
A former Capitol rioter who publicly turned on President-elect Donald Trump after serving 60 days in federal prison has said she would "refuse" a pardon from the MAGA cult leader, who has previously promised to free nonviolent offenders who participated in the Jan. 6 insurrection. Pamela Hemphill, a grandmother in her 70s who pleaded guilty to charges related to the riot, sounded off on social media about her thoughts on her prospective pardon. "I’m not going to be bullied by MAGA anymore, as those who went as far as calling my Probation Officer trying to get me in trouble backfired on them, thinking I would stop speaking out, just give me more confidence to continue!" Hemphill wrote in a post on Twitter. "I will refuse a pardon from felon Trump!" Trump previously highlighted Hemphill’s case in a very brief post on his Truth Social app in 2023 — but by that time Hemphill had already distanced herself from the MAGA movement. "I pleaded guilty because I was guilty, period," Hemphill told the Daily Beast at the time. "I mean, I was trespassing. I had a choice — I could have left."
Many members of Congress outperformed the stock market in 2024
The stock market had a record-breaking run last year, but members of Congress still managed to outperform it with their portfolios making staggering gains in industries where they wield legislative power and influence, such as tech and energy. More than 20 members made almost double the S&P500 average gain of 24.9 percent last year. The top five performers — Rep. David Rouzer (R-NC), Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL), Ron Wyden (D-OR), Roger Williams (R-TX), Morgan McGarvey (D-KY) — increased the value of their portfolio value by more than 100 percent, according to a new report. Almost seems like some sort of governing body should do something about this glaring and most obvious conflict of interest. Hmmm, wonder who that could be?
