John,

President Biden’s time in office is running out. Can you take 1 minute to send him a message to grant clemency and bring home individuals who have been over-incarcerated due to racist and unjust crack cocaine sentencing laws?

Add your name

For decades, Black communities have borne the brunt of the War on Drugs. Thousands of people are currently behind bars because of the unjust and unsound crack-cocaine sentencing disparity. This disparity set the sentencing for crack cocaine originally at 100 and now 18 times longer than powder cocaine — even though the drugs are scientifically identical.

Urge President Biden to grant clemency for Americans convicted of federal crack cocaine offenses before Donald Trump takes office.

In 2022, US Attorney General Merrick Garland gave new instructions to federal prosecutors to stop treating crack and powder cocaine differently in criminal sentencing. This landmark move halted the racist disparity created by the War on Drugs that disproportionately impacted Black and Brown communities. However, this only applies to sentences moving forward, which means thousands of people are still behind bars, punished by outdated laws.

President Biden has the opportunity to use his constitutional clemency power on individuals impacted by these racist sentencing disparities. For 4 years, members like you have stepped up, sent thousands of messages, made hundreds of calls, and written letters to local newspapers urging Congress to end this racist practice and pass the EQUAL Act that would end this injustice. While the EQUAL Act hasn’t passed our fight isn’t over, we need you to send President Biden one final message before he leaves office.

Take Action — Before it's too late!

Momentum is on our side, in just the last month President Biden has granted clemency to nearly 1,500 Americans who were placed on CARES Act home confinement and commuted 37 federal death sentences to life imprisonment with the possibility of parole. While we applaud these actions, no one was freed from a prison cell. But right now, we have an opportunity to bring home hundreds of people who have already served more time than they should have - and reunite them with their families!

President Biden has less than a week left in office, please take 1 minute to add your name and bring thousands home from prison.

In solidarity,
— Kandia Milton, Government Affairs Director
