January 12, 2025

Dear Georgian,

It is an honor to represent you. I recently returned to Washington and was sworn into the 119th Congress, where I will continue to be a fierce fighter for Georgia's farmers, military installations, and rural communities.

I also joined House Republicans in selecting Rep. Mike Johnson of Louisiana to be our Speaker of the House.

Mike Johnson is a good man, a good friend, and the best person to lead the House. I have full faith in his leadership in Congress as we advance several conservative priorities with President Trump in the White House.

As always, my staff and I are here to help. If you need assistance with a federal agency or have comments or concerns to share with me, please do not hesitate to call my Warner Robins, Tifton, or Washington, D.C. offices. I encourage you to visit my website, like my Facebook page, follow me on YouTube, and follow me on X.

Keep reading for the full update.

Sincerely,

Certifying President Trump's Victory

The American people spoke loud and clear this past November, and last week, we certified President Trump’s victory!

I look forward to his inauguration and moving rapidly to secure our border, reduce the cost of energy, fix our economy, and reduce the deficit.

Honoring Former President Jimmy Carter

I joined many fine Americans and fellow Georgians in honoring the late former President Jimmy Carter as he was lying in state in the Capitol last week.

President Jimmy Carter was a distinguished public servant, a proud farmer, an accomplished Navy veteran, and a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy. He lived the American dream and exemplified the ideals of public service to his community and country.

Even after leaving the White House, President Carter maintained his efforts to serve those in need. His work through The Carter Center improved and saved the lives of millions worldwide, nearly eradicating previously common deadly diseases.

President Carter's devotion to his country, community, and family are principles worth living by. His legacy lives on as the namesake of USS Jimmy Carter (SSN-23).

Passing the Laken Riley Act

What happened to Laken Riley should have never happened in our country. My heart goes out to her family and community as they continue to grieve her loss.

To start the 119th Congress, the House passed the Laken Riley Act, which protects American communities by requiring Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to issue detainers and take custody of illegal aliens who commit theft, burglary, larceny, and shoplifting offenses.

I cosponsored and voted for this legislation and will continue to support all efforts to secure our border and deport violent individuals who have come into our country illegally.

Fox NewsLaken Riley Act passes House with 48 Dems, all Republicans

The Laken Riley Act passed the House of Representatives on Tuesday afternoon, the first piece of federal legislation approved by the 119th Congress after the House agreed to its rules for the term.

All voting Republicans supported the bill, along with 48 Democrats – more than the total left-wing lawmakers who voted for it last year. It passed on a 264 to 159 margin and will now be sent to the Senate.

The bill is named after a nursing student who was killed by an illegal immigrant while jogging on the University of Georgia's campus.

The bill would require federal immigration authorities to detain illegal immigrants found guilty of theft-related crimes. It also would allow states to sue the Department of Homeland Security for harm caused to their citizens because of illegal immigration.
