Dear NRDC Supporter,

Our thoughts are with those whose lives have been upended by the
catastrophic wildfires in Los Angeles and across Southern
California this week. These fires are being fueled by powerful
winds and drought conditions exacerbated by climate change.

This is what happens when the
fossil fuel industry is left unchecked — and our communities are
paying the price. But these fires also underscore the importance
of our mission to fight climate change and protect people in the
face of these increasingly frequent and intense extreme weather
events. From all of us at NRDC, thank you for supporting this
vital work.

ACTION SPOTLIGHT

New Year’s Resolution: Urge Congress to
Stand Strong for Climate

The new Congress took office this past
week, both houses now with an anti-environment majority. Next
week, Trump will return to the White House. We’re facing an
unprecedented attack on our environmental protections.

The new administration and its Big Oil
allies have detailed plans to roll back clean energy protections
and tear down the critical safeguards that defend our planet.

Tell the new Congress to oppose
attempts to undo climate protections! ( [link removed] )

CAMPAIGN UPDATE

Dirty Energy Update: Biden Bans New
Drilling Off U.S. Coasts; New Study Reveals True Costs of LNG

In a major win for oceans, marine life,
and coastal communities, President Biden has permanently banned
new oil and gas leasing in public waters around much of the U.S.
coasts.

Meanwhile, a new, highly anticipated
study from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) reveals that
exports of liquified natural gas (LNG) have catastrophic
environmental and economic impacts — they significantly increase
methane emissions, amplify the climate crisis, and threaten
frontline communities with pollution.

The Biden administration took a
critical first step last year toward phasing out LNG and other
dirty fuels by hitting pause on climate-busting LNG exports. Now,
the administration must finish what it started.

Tell the Biden administration to reject dangerous LNG exports
before a second Trump term. ( [link removed] )

DEEP DIVE

Why We Need the EPA

Let’s not forget what America looked like
before we had the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency: Our
rivers caught on fire, our air was full of smog, and it stank
(literally). The EPA has transformed American life for the better
— but now with the second Trump administration looming, we appear
to be careening backwards in time. Read more > ( [link removed] )

ACTION ROUNDUP

* Protect Our Communities Against the
Harmful Wood Pellet Biomass Industry: ( [link removed] ) The biomass industry is already harming the Southeast, and now
it wants to spread to California. Tell officials we don’t want it
in our communities. Submit a public comment by the Jan. 20
