Following the meeting, as Co-Chairs of the SALT Caucus, Andrew and Congresswoman Young Kim (R-CA) released a joint statement saying, "Our constituents are burdened by the SALT cap, and President Trump committed to addressing this issue for our districts. We had a productive meeting tonight and will keep fighting to resolve this critical issue so our constituents can keep more of their hard-earned money." Andrew remains committed to securing much-needed tax relief to hardworking Long Island families. ANDREW IN THE NEWS NY GOP-sponsored bill would give $10M in grants to take down repeat offenders " New York Republicans floated a bill Wednesday to dole out $10 million a year to incentivize local jurisdictions to go after repeat offenders, according to a draft exclusively obtained by The Post. The Empire State GOP delegation introduced the SERVE Our Communities Act to incentivize the jurisdictions between fiscal years 2026 and 2031 “to prioritize law enforcement and public safety” by repealing 'misguided' bail policies and other 'harmful' effects of criminal justice reform. 'We must end the ongoing cycle of crime caused by Albany’s bail reform policies, which prioritize criminals over law-abiding New Yorkers,' Rep. Claudia Tenney, the lead co-sponsor, told The Post...Repeat offenders have dogged New York City and other jurisdictions run by progressive prosecutors, many of whom seek to eliminate bail and downgrade an array of charges. Nearly 1 in 5 criminals (19.1%) reoffend, per statistics shared this year by the New York Department of Corrections, and New York is in the minority of US states where judges are not been able to take into account the danger of defendants when determining bail...'New Yorkers deserve to feel safe in their communities, but Albany’s disastrous bail reform policies have made that impossible,' added Nassau and Suffolk County Rep. Andrew Garbarino (R-NY). 'The SERVE Our Communities Act is a necessary step toward restoring accountability and ensuring repeat offenders no longer cycle in and out of the system unchecked. I’m proud to join Congresswoman Tenney and my New York colleagues in standing up for our law enforcement and prioritizing the safety of law-abiding citizens.' " Click here to read the full article. WHAT'S NEW IN NY-02 Andrew Condemns Implementation of Congestion Pricing Plan This week, New York’s congestion pricing plan was officially implemented, imposing new fees on hardworking Long Islanders and commuters traveling into Manhattan. Andrew strongly condemns this plan, which unfairly burdens Long Island commuters and businesses already struggling with high costs. Andrew is committed to fighting for sensible transportation policies that protect Long Islanders and support economic growth. He will continue working across government to push back against this unfair toll system and advocate for solutions that benefit all New Yorkers. Honoring Retiring SCPD ESU Officers SCPD officers Carl Glaser and Anthony Russo were honored at a retirement walk-out on Friday after decades of dedicated service in the Emergency Service Section (ESU). Carl, who served over 31 years and was also a Suffolk PBA board member, and Anthony were both recognized for their exceptional commitment to public safety. Andrew provided each officer with a Capitol-flown flag and a Congressional Certificate of Recognition to commemorate their service to Suffolk County and their lasting impact on the community. CASEWORK HIGHLIGHT: Helping Local Business Recover Earned Income Tax Credits For more than a year and a half, a constituent with a construction company struggled to receive their Earned Income Tax Credits from the IRS, leaving critical funds tied up. When they reached out for assistance, Andrew’s casework team stepped in and quickly got the case assigned to a Tax Advocate, resulting in the remaining amount being paid out. Andrew knows how frustrating dealing with bureaucracy can be. That is why he has an entire team dedicated to helping constituents get what they need from the government. If you need help dealing with a federal agency, contact our office and our team will get to work on your case. KEEPING UP WITH CONGRESS House Passes Laken Riley Act This week, Andrew voted for H.R. 29, the Laken Riley Act, which passed the House on a bipartisan basis as one of the first acts of the new Congress. The bill, named after a 22-year-old nursing student tragically murdered by an illegal immigrant last year, requires ICE to detain criminal migrants until removal and overrides sanctuary laws. “No family should have to endure what Laken Riley's family has faced. The House passed the Laken Riley Act to protect Americans from criminal migrants and prevent future tragedies,” Andrew said. Andrew Takes Action Against Corrupt ICC This week, Andrew voted for H.R. 23, the Illegitimate Court Counteraction Act, to protect the sovereignty of the United States and its allies from politically motivated actions by the International Criminal Court (ICC). The ICC’s baseless charges of “war crimes” against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the leader of one of America's closest allies, demonstrate a dangerous overreach that could target American leaders and military personnel in the future. The bill imposes sanctions on ICC officials who attempt to arrest or prosecute U.S. citizens or allied leaders. By countering these illegitimate actions, this legislation ensures that no corrupt international body can undermine the sovereignty or security of America and its allies. Andrew Stands Up for Election Integrity This week, Andrew helped reintroduce the SAVE Act, legislation aimed at protecting the integrity of U.S. elections. The bill requires proof of citizenship to register to vote, ensuring that only American citizens can participate in the democratic process. “It’s common sense that only American citizens should decide American elections, a principle grounded in the Constitution,” said Andrew. “Despite this, places like New York City have disregarded this standard by allowing non-citizens to vote in local elections. The SAVE Act upholds the integrity of our elections by requiring proof of citizenship to register to vote, ensuring this fundamental right is reserved exclusively for American citizens.” Andrew remains committed to safeguarding the electoral process and protecting the rights of American citizens. Stay tuned for updates on this and other legislative priorities. Thanks for reading! Do you know someone who might like to receive these updates?
