Dear John,

Memorial Day is traditionally an opportunity to honor and celebrate heroes. I want to take this moment to thank our staff, as well as our incredible network of supporters for coming together over the past few months. The needs continue to grow, the landscape continues to shift, and I am humbled by everyone’s heroic care and dedication as we make sure together that our friends and families, our colleagues, and our community come out of this strong.

I also want to share with you one excellent piece of news. You might have seen the Washington Post article about our shelter guests, Stephen and Claude. Thanks to a generous donor who reached out after reading the article, movers came yesterday and helped them move into their new senior housing complex in Bristol, where they will be neighbors with their own apartments.

We will miss them, but we couldn’t be happier. In every one of our programs, the goal is to develop resilience and provide the tools for achieving safety and wellness. This is a beautiful example of that.

Make sure you take even a few moments to recharge this weekend. We will try to do the same. The road ahead is long, but together we will give our neighbors in need something to celebrate.
