John,

Earlier this week, President Biden permanently banned new offshore oil and gas drilling across 625 million acres of ocean , along most of America’s coastline.

And although President-elect Trump has vowed to immediately reverse the ban so they can "drill, baby, drill," he won’t be able to undo it without an act of Congress.

This monumental step wouldn’t have been possible without the efforts of SEEC members, who urged President Biden to take bold executive action. Will you donate $25, or any amount, to support our climate champions who are holding the line and pushing forward the fight to protect our oceans? [[link removed]]

Donate $25 → [[link removed]] Another amount → [[link removed]]Last November, SEEC member Raúl M. Grijalva (AZ-7) co-led a letter to President Biden asking him to ban new offshore drilling. It was signed by 9 SEEC members, including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14), Salud Carbajal (CA-24), Suzanne Bonamici (OR-1), Deborah K. Ross (NC-2), Jared Huffman (CA-2), Kathy Castor (FL-14), Chellie Pingree (ME-1), Sydney Kamlager-Dove (CA-37), and Mike Levin (CA-49).

And their efforts were successful: using his authority under Section 12(a) of the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act, President Biden issued an executive order to permanently prohibit offshore oil and gas development along the entire East and West coasts, as well as the Eastern Gulf of Mexico and even areas of the Northern Bering Sea off Alaska.

This is a huge win for coastal communities, marine ecosystems, fishing and tourism industries, and of course, we can’t forget the critically endangered North Atlantic right whales who will also be safeguarded!

To no one’s surprise, President-elect Trump said in a radio interview that he had the “right to unban it immediately.” Here’s the good news: he’s wrong. He’ll need an act of Congress to reverse the ban. And that’s not going to be easy because Congressmembers in coastal states don’t want drilling on their coastlines.

John, this is yet another climate victory notch on the belt of SEEC members! Now, it’s time to show them we have their backs as they continue the fight into the new administration. Can they count on your donation today? [[link removed]]
