Thanks to grassroots supporters like you, Kannan Srinivasan — our first JanePAC-endorsed climate champion of the year — won his critical special election in Virginia’s 32nd Senate District!

This was no ordinary race. It was our first early test of the political environment after the 2024 elections, setting the tone for the fights ahead. With a razor-thin majority in Virginia’s Senate, Kannan’s win keeps control out of Republican hands — and makes sure Trump and his allies can’t bulldoze through the state with their anti-climate agenda.

But let’s not kid ourselves. This special election was our first battleground of 2025, but it won’t be the last. Trump takes office in a matter of weeks, and he’s promised to team up with Big Oil and Republican-led legislatures across the country to erase climate progress. That’s why we need to continue to build on this momentum and create a firewall of climate leaders at every level of government to protect the climate policies we’ve fought so hard for — and to push for bold new ones.
